As I rounded the corner and entered the kitchen, the change was so drastic that even I couldn’t miss it! When I had gone to bed the night before, the table was the same old cluttered and beaten up thing we’ve had for ~20 years.
Over those years, the surface has become chipped, warped, discolored – truly, it’s pretty unsightly. I’ve refinished the top twice, yet the effects of time and heavy use have taken their toll. Honestly, it just needs to be replaced.
But on that morning, the table was stunningly beautiful. All the clutter had been cleared away and it was covered in a bright, blood-red tablecloth. Immediately, the old thing looked new. All of the imperfections were covered – the only thing I could now see was a layer of red perfection.
As I sat down to have breakfast I couldn’t help but think of how that old table now covered in “blood” was a wonderful picture of what Christ has done for us. His shed blood covers our sin perfectly and when God looks at us, all He sees is Christ.
The old has gone, the new has come – what a wondrous exchange for all who will accept His gift! –Dave
“…the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7)
