“For the needy will not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the afflicted perish forever. Arise, O LORD, do not let man prevail; let the nations be judged before You.” (Psalm 9:18-19)
Needy. Afflicted. Poor. In one way or another, that covers just about all of us doesn’t it? Needy in the verse above literally means to be in a sense of want – with special emphasis on feeling the need. It is to be destitute, whether physically, emotionally, or relationally. And David is spot-on when he declares that in that state we can often lose hope.
Yet, the story doesn’t end there. While hope may be hard to find in the here-and-now, the promise David clung to was that one day…ONE DAY, all things will be made right. There is no guarantee that all earthly struggles will be erased in this lifetime. But we can rest assured that God sees them, and that every need will be fulfilled, every wrong will be made right – in God’s way, in God’s time.
Until that day, rest in the knowledge that the perfect Judge will make all things right in the end. –Dave
