“You, Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.” (Psalm 18:28)
I don’t know about you, but it seems that a whole lot of darkness has crept into my world. Disturbing, dark news surrounds me from without. Disturbing, dark thoughts often haunt my mind from within. Sometimes, the darkness can be so overwhelming that I want to withdraw from the world and just give up. How are we to continue to move forward with so much darkness all about?
I don’t have a magic formula, but the verse above points us to the One who must be considered part of the solution. It is the Lord who keeps the light within us from going out. It is He who renews our reasons for hope, who gives us the strength and determination to keep going.
Likewise, it is God alone who can take our darkest moments and make them into something good. While it may be hard to believe while we’re still in the dark, God can turn our misery into our mission, our pain into our purpose, and our fear into our future.
As we enter this holiday week, let’s give thanks that God can turn our darkness into light. –Dave
