Wax or Clay?

Hebs 4_7_wax clay Bible

“The same sun which melts wax hardens clay.” (CH Spurgeon)

Spurgeon went on to add that the gospel leads people to either repentance or a hardening of heart. I think the same could be said for all of God’s Word – the truth we find there typically results in one of two responses – either a softening of our hearts to it as we respond, or a hardening as we resist. It’s the same “sun;” but the material it shines upon determines its effect.

Over and over again in Scripture we’re encouraged to allow God’s Word to mold and shape our lives. We’re to listen to His voice, understand His truth, and apply what we need to in our personal circumstances.

In short, when it comes to responding to Scripture, we’re to be wax and not clay. Which will you be today? –Dave

“Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” (Hebrews 4:7)
