“For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it again. “No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again.” (John 10:17-19)
While John 3:16 is probably the most frequently quoted verse in the Bible, Good Friday reminds us that the Father wasn’t the only one willing for the Son to die. As we read the gospel accounts of the betrayal, trials, beatings, and crucifixion, it’s easy to think that Christ’s life was taken from Him by others. But, such was not the case.
God so loved the world that He sent His only Son. The Son so loved the world that He was willingly sent to die in our place. It was His sacrifice that paid our price; the blood is our victory.
Lord, we thank you for your willingness to lay down your life for ours. –Dave
