Old Fruit

I refuse to admit that I’m getting older; however, there is no denying that my “salt and pepper” beard has a lot more “salt” in it these days.  It’s also true that I don’t have the same energy and vigor I once did.  Yet, with God’s help, I hope that I’m a long way from being done too!

Thankfully, that is not just my opinion on the topic; it has the backing of God’s Word as well.  Listen to this encouragement to those of us who may be in the second-half of life:

The righteous flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.  They are planted in the house of the Lord; they flourish in the courts of our God.  They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green, to declare that the Lord is upright…” (Psalm 92:12-15; emphasis added).

I found these words incredibly encouraging as I sat at my computer with a heating pad and massaging unit applied to my aching lower back!  If we will pursue righteousness, God promises to make us grow like a well watered tree.  And as long as we’re living, we can produce fruit for Him – fruit that includes declaring His goodness to others.

So fellow ole’-timer (or youngster) – now is not the time to give up; now is the time to pursue His righteousness! –Dave
