A Radiant Change

Exodus 34_29_A Radiant Change

When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord. (Exodus 34:29)

When I was young, this verse made me think of the “glow-in-the-dark” trinkets that used to come in “Specially-Marked Boxes” of some cereals.  After being held close to a light, they would shine in the dark for a while.  I guess I pictured Moses having that type of glow after he had spent time near the Light of the world.

Moses’ appearance was so radically changed that he had to cover his face when interacting with others (v. 33).  One thing is for sure, others KNEW Moses had spent time with God.  And folks, the same should be true for us as well!

No, I’m not suggesting that we’ll begin to glow like the Swamp Thing from an episode of Scooby Doo, but the fact that we spend time with the God of the Universe should become readily apparent to others.  Our speech and action should differ, and the desires of our heart should change.  Looked at from the other side of the coin, if we remain exactly as we’ve always been, why is God making no difference in our lives?

As one innocent child observed on the way home from church, “Mom, if God is so big that He holds the entire universe in His hand, and yet lives inside us when we accept Jesus – shouldn’t He shine through?”

Friends, if you and I spend meaningful time with the God of the universe, He will shine through.  Is He? –Dave
